~는데/~은데/~ㄴ데

I’ve heard these suffixes so many times in dramas that I decided to finally read about them and understand their meaning. Here are my notes:

  1. ~는데/은데 are used for descriptive verb stems and the copula 이다, but 은데 can only be used in the present tense while the other one can be used to also express the past for example.
  2. ~ㄴ데 is used for descriptive verb stems ending in a vowel and ~은데 is used for descriptive verb stems ending in a consonant.
  • Examples:

바쁘다 (to be busy) -> 바쁜데

좋다 (to be good) -> 좋은데

  • ~는데 is used for all the other cases regardless of what the verb stem ends in. It can be used for action verbs, descriptive verbs, to express the past and so on.
  • Examples:

먹다 (to eat) -> 먹는데
작았다 (to have been small) -> 작았는데

  • ~는데/~은데/~ㄴ데 can be used to mention relevant circumstances before explaining, commanding or suggesting.
  • Example:

밖에 눈 오는데 눈싸움하자! = It’s snowing outside! Let’s have a snowball fight!

  • They can also be used as an exclamatory or interrogative suffix to express unexpectedness or for anticipating the responses of the listener.
  • Examples:

없었는데? = But there was nothing!
맛있겠는데? = It’s delicious, isn’t it?

That’s it! Hope you enjoyed!

안녕~

Am auzit aceste sufixe in serialele coreene de atatea ori incat am decis ca in sfarsit sa citesc despre ele si sa le inteleg semnificatia. Aici sunt notitele mele:

  1. ~는데/은데 sunt folosite alaturi de radacina verbelor descriptive si alaturi de copula 이다, insa 은데 poate fi folosit doar la timpul present in timp ce primul poate fi folosit si pentru a exprima, de exemplu, trecutul.
  2. ~ㄴ데 se foloseste alaturi de radacina verbelor descriptive care se termina intr-o vocala iar ~은데 se foloseste alaturi de radacina verbelor descriptive care se termina intr-o consoana.
  • Exemple:

바쁘다 (a fi ocupat) -> 바쁜데

좋다 (a fi bun) -> 좋은데

  • ~는데 este folosit in toate celelalte cazuri indiferent de terminatia radacinii verbului. Poate fi folosit alaturi de verbe ce arata actiunea, verbe descriptive, poate sa exprime trecutul etc.
  • Exemple:

먹다 (a manca) -> 먹는데
작았다 (a fost mic) -> 작았는데

  • ~는데/~은데/~ㄴ데 pot fi folosite pentru a mentiona imprejurari/circumstante relevante inaintea unei explicatii, impuneri sau sugestii.
  • Exemplu:

밖에 눈 오는데 눈싸움하자! = Ninge afara! Hai sa ne batem cu bulgari de zapada!

  • Ele pot de asemenea fi folosite drept sufixe exclamatoare sau interogatoare pentru a exprima neasteptarea/surprinderea ori pentru anticiparea raspunsurilor ascultatorului/receptorului.
  • Exemple:

없었는데? = Dar nu era nimic acolo!
맛있겠는데? = E delicios, nu-i asa?

Asta e tot. Sper ca v-a placut!

안녕~
